I'm Richard. My wife Lynne and I opened the first MY PLACE (just for kids) in January1984. We have seen over 1,000,000 kids visit our centers over the years. We started the center because I was traveling as a regional Manager for a fortune 50 company and was never home to see my kids grow up. It took a year of planning and design to come up with the original concept of Drop-in childcare for children 2 months to 12 yr. of age. Lynne has a degree in Psychology and Dental Hygiene and mine is in Marketing with additional course work in early childhood development. Lynne has turned over the operation of the centers to me to run and has returned to her field in Dentistry.

We tried to design a fun place that was great for kids and easy for today's families to use. The results is MY PLACE (just for kids)

We are very active in the community by being on the various Boards of Directors. Some are Oakland County Child Care (4C), H.W. Men's club, the brotherhood at our religious affiliation, Guest Lecturer at Wayne State MBA program, and OCC Early childhood program, Beautification committee for our city., Zoning board of appeals, and numerous, elected positions in various civic and social groups. We have two great children that grew up at MY PLACE (just for kids) Tanya born in 1979 and Jonathan born in 1982.

Hi! I'm Amber. I am the Director at the Sterling Heights Location. I have been working at My Place since April of 2000. I love my job because I get to meet new children every day. I currently attend Wayne State University. I will be graduating in April of 2003 with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education with majors in Math and Science. I graduated from Oakland Community College in August of 1999 with an Associates in Early Childhood Development.

My best friend worked in child care right after High School. I was attending Wayne State to complete classes for a Pre-Vet. Medicine Degree. She said a position had opened up in their toddler room, so I decided to give it a try. My first day I was assigned four toddlers, one was a "biter", another pushed the other children every time I turned around and another was new to the room and cried off and on all day. It was a stressful day for me. I had just a half hour left, when the tornado sirens went off, and I was stuck for an additional two hours in a small hallway with eight toddlers and another teacher. We managed to keep them in the hall and fairly happy. Even through all that on a first day, I knew that I loved working with children and I decided to pursue a career in teaching soon after that. One of my hobbies has stemmed from my experience at OCC. I developed a web site called The Activity Idea Place (123child.com) in 1998 and it currently hosts over 1250 activity ideas for young children, a monthly newsletter and a bulletin board for Early Childhood Education Professionals. I consider myself to be very creative, outgoing and motivated. I have attended many conferences hosted by various educational organizations such as DACTM, NSTA, and NAEYC. I enjoy reading, walking and visiting local educational attractions (such as the Nature Center and Museums) with my six year old son, Damian, (pictured here). Last summer we visited the caves and mined for gemstones on a family vacation in Ohio. I look forward to utilizing my past and future experiences to provide each child with a safe and fun environment at MY PLACE.

Hi there parents of MY PLACE'S children. My name is Chanda (aka Bird) and I have worked with children for over 13 years. My desire to be around children have led me into a career goal of teaching elementary children which is sucessfully being accomplished by attending Wayne State University and graduating with my teacher's degree in 2003. I am glad to be the Assistant Director here at the Sterling Heights MY PLACE and look forward to working with your children.
Thanks for visiting our web site. I'm Roseanna and aside from working with the kids, I do much of the behind the scenes work to help keep MY PLACE (just for kids) running smoothly. This includes health and safety issues, answering customer comments, inventory and the advertising and outside marketing. June of 2002 will mark my second annivery at MY PLACE. I attended Oaklnad University, majoring in Modern Languages and Literature. My child care background includes over 15 years of experience, including several years at a highly reputed center in St. Claire Shores. I've had many child care courses and workshops.

One of the reasons I enjoy working at MY Place is the versatility. Being a drop-in center, we get different children daily, ranging from two months to 12 years. We appreciate our "regulars" and are always happy to see the kinds and their parents. We love meeting new families too!
